About the draft of the Law “The amendments to the Russian Federation Law “On trademarks, service marks and names of goods’ origin”.

The Russian Patent Office is currently developing a draft of the Law “The amendments to the Russian Federation Law “On trademarks, service marks and names of goods’ origin”.

The main aim of the law being developed is the increase of the effectiveness of law protection and maintenance of trademarks, service marks and names of goods’ origin, including protections of rights and interests of the Russian Federation.

Among the main aims of the Law are the adjustment of the situations with the designations, which have been used for a long time on the territory of the Soviet Union by numerous producers for marking their goods, specification of the actions, which can be considered as illegal use of a trademark, service mark or a name of good’s origin, implementing new conditions, hindering trademark or a service mark concession or licensing, aimed at protection of the consumers’ rights. Apart from that one of the aims of the law being developed is providing the performance of the international agreements, in which The Russian Federation acts a contracting party as well as of international agreement participation in which is being currently considered.
